“HENRI” is 1 of 4 paintings from the Experimental Series 2023 - each piece featuring an artist, including myself. The series is an homage to the three artists and also poses an exploratory process to bathe in each individual artist’s belief and work aesthetic, but also making them mine. Everyone, pleased to introduce you to Henri.

I find Henri Rousseau fascinating. From his somewhat awkward grasp on people/perspective to how he just cannot figure out feet. On the contrary, his exceptional detail to every single leaf. Among the artists that existed during the post-impressionistic era, he is my favorite.

I began with full confidence only to be slapped down immediately. I cannot do gradation like Henri, and there was the timeline issue. I just haven’t got the skill to execute in Henri’s level yet. The assignment was to make an homage, but also make it mine. And so I did - goodbye gradation. One day.
